Post subject:  Income guidelines?

When I retire next year, I will be collecting both Social Security benefits and a small pension from my employer. Is basic Medicare based solely on age or will it also be based on my income level?

It is my understanding that income is not a factor with Medicare. As long as you are eligible, you should be able to get it. Medicaid is the government insurance program that has income guidelines. Your best bet is to visit your local social security office and ask an agent just to make sure you don't have an exception that I don't know about. Good luck!

Thank you, Jason. That was my understanding as well but it never hurts to check it out. I've always thought it was something we have earned by working hard all these years.

I am on Social Security and SSI, as is my gram. Now that she is over 65 her income doesn't affect Medicare, but since I'm under 65 my income would affect Medicare. Hope that helps some!

I don't think having both your pension from your employer and social security would affect your eligibility.

Medicare is available for people age 65 and older, people with disabilities, or those with permanent kidney failure that needs regular dialysis or transplant.

Basic Medicare, part A is premium free if you are receiving social security retirement benefits or if you've worked for the government.

Hi there. I don't think there'd be considerations about your income when it comes to your Medicare eligibility.

If income made a difference then people would actually be harming themselves by creating their own retirement funds.
