My friend's husband is terminal with lung cancer. He is a retired railroad employee and is not on normal Medicare. She needs all the help she can get finance wise. I have heard that hospice is good in this situation but she said she didn't know if Railroad Medicare would cover it. Anyone know if this is the case?

Medicare does cover hospice care as long as a doctor determines that a person has less than six months to live. If you're not sure about whether it is covered under Railroad Medicare, and her Medicare plan isn't normal, I would suggest calling the Railroad Retirement Board at 1-800-808-0772 or, after January 1, 2009, 1-877-772-5772.

Thanks Chris. I passed that information along and I think she got a good answer. God knows they really need help. He's in bad shape these days. I only hope he makes it to the holidays for his family's sake.
