Does anyone know if the automatic premium deduction from Social Security benefits carry over to new Medicare drug plans? I'm helping a friend who wants to switch to a different Medicare drug plan and need to know.

No, it does not carry over automatically. Your friend will have to again choose to have the plan premiums deducted or not. The old deduction should stop automatically, though, but sometimes can take a month or two.

Thanks, Brandon, also for the info about the old deduction stopping automatically. At least that's something we don't have to worry about filling paperwork out for, and we won't be surprised when it does stop.

Well, I probably should have added that you do need to watch for this. I've heard that many people get charged an extra month or two quite often before the deduction actually stops. I would assume that you would have to contact the office in order to get that money reimbursed.
