 Post subject: Part C and Medigap?

So, if a person decides that Medicare as is isn't quite cutting it, and decides to get an advantage plan, then their Medigap plan won't work? Why is that? If the point of paying extra for an advantage plan is extra coverage, why do you lose some coverage when you sign up for it?

Maybe I'm missing something here because I thought the advantage plans were just another name for a medigap plan. In other words, aren't they just two different words for the same thing?

I don't think so, I think Medigap is something that you go through Medicare to get, and Advantage plans are with separate insurance companies who work with Medicare. I could be wrong, but that's the impression that I've gotten.
