If you happen to lose your card, it takes up to four weeks to get a replacement. What do you do to get coverage in the meantime?

Unless you are going to go to a new doctor or get a new prescription you should be fine because you will already be on file at these locations. Otherwise, you will need them to call and verify your coverage at the new doctor's office.

So they will just take the information off file? I don't know if it is just my doctors but I've never seen or known of that-you are asked to always have and present your card.

You can call your local Social Security Office and they will be able to furnish you with proof of Medicare coverage until your new card comes. Believe me, I know firsthand. My wife washed my card because I had carried it in my blue jeans pocket to the doctor one day. That little incident made me start checking my pants pockets before I put them in the wash!
