A neighbor of mine has to travel to the hospital three times per week for dialysis. There is a special bus that takes him there and picks him back up. It's only a four dollars per day but this adds up to $48 per month, sometimes more, and with his fixed income this is a hardship for him. Does any Medicare plan help with medical transportation costs?

I don't believe this type of thing is covered under any Medicare plan but you may want to check with your social security office. I know it doesn't cover transportation for routine care but I don't know if they would count dialysis as routine or not.

Really the only thing that I can think of is applying to the hospital or the company that offers the service, for hardship. Certainly hospitals can waive services charges if the person has a real inability to pay.
