Does every state divide its Medicaid plans? I live in Georgia and we used to have only Georgia Medicaid. A few years ago, our states' Medicaid plan decided to divide itself up somehow. We now have multiple plans to choose from; Wellcare, Peachcare and Amerigroup. I was just wondering if this has occurred nationwide or just locally.

Each state is different but I think most of them operate similarly in this regard. In Massachusetts there are also several plans to choose from as they are run by private companies now. Some have premiums attached and so provide a higher level of services than you can get on the free plans.

I am sure that each state has some different options but I don't know of anything else like Medicare that is offered in Illinois. I think that medicare is about it for us. But maybe "cobra" coverage would count?

I appreciate the answers. I don't think Medicare or Medicaid has anything to do with Cobra. If I am correct Cobra, only covers regular employment insurance once a job ends.
