I have so many relatives in town that really need help especially in heath care. In what way Medicaid can help these people? Their monthly wages are not enough to cover all the expenses.

Medicaid provides insurance based on a person's income. Even when someone doesn't qualify for complete coverage there is often a plan that can be had for a small premium payment each month. Medicaid is a federal program but is managed at the state level so the requirements do vary from state to state. It certainly doesn't hurt to apply.

I think most folds use Medicaid as a supplemental insurance. Meaning that they already have some medical coverage but they use Medicaid to fill in the areas they may not have good coverage. At least that is my understanding.

Georgia Medicaid pays for all my doctor visits, hospital tests, prescriptions, etc. Until recently, I didn't even have to pay co-pays. But as everyone is feeling the economical crunch, I now have to pay small co-pays for my medications. There are occasionally some medicines that Medicaid doesn't want to pay for and I have to get a replacement or pay for it myself.

Medicaid does allow for a prior authorization process for any medication not covered by their formulary list. You will need your doctor to submit a form to them that states why that specific medication is needed. The prior auth usually is time limited, like for 3 or 6 months, then if the medication is still needed, another prior auth can be obtained the same way.

I don't know about other states but Massachusetts has plans that help just about any income levels. We have a family assistance plan that can even help pay the premiums for someone to be able to afford their employer offered insurance. Anyone who needs the help should apply and see what they may qualify for.
